Sri Lankan theatre song (Nurthi): Shriya manamath vi



Shriyā manamth vī is a popular song that belongs to the Nūrthi repertoire. Nūrthi is a theatrical genre related to the North Indian classical music introduced to Sri Lankans by an Indian theater troupe in 1877. The lyrics of this song, taken from the stage drama Rāmāyana by John de Silva, portray a young man’s affection to a beautiful woman: “As soon as I saw you I fell in love with you. Would you soon console my wishes?”
