Folk Dance and Temple Festival in Jaffna, Sri Lanka

Folk Dance and Temple Festival in Jaffna, Sri Lanka – I wanted to show you a bit of our traditions of my place in Jaffna, Sri Lanka. Both the Hindu religious and Tamil cultural festivals of the northern region is very colorful and similar to Tamil Nadu in South India. I was recording these videos during the last year’s 12 days annual festival of my hometown temple, Chunnakam Mylani Murugan. I used to see our traditional folk dance “Kavadi Aattam” or burden dance from my childhood in big temples during the festivals. At the same time, I never saw other type of folk dances such as peacock dance, horse dance, or doll dance before. It may be vanished during the long war, and now it’s revitalizing.

Music: I used the same Tamil folk music which was playing in the background at the event while I was recording the video.

I hope that you will enjoy it, Thank you!
