Singhalese people like to visit the Toranas and spend time, often hours looking at the illuminations and paintings showing scenes related to the Buddhist faith. It is very commun to be asked during that season: “Did you see the Torana?” Often People travel arround their area to various Toranas and see them all at least 1 time.
During Vesak festivals in Sri Lanka it is a tradition to erect electrically illuminated colorful Vesak toranas in public places. These decorations are temporary installations which remain in public display for couple of weeks starting from the day of Vesak
Toranas are also referred to as Pandals. (Wikipedia)
