Sri Lanka is the pearl of the Indian Ocean. Kandyan dance is the main dance tradition in Sri Lanka. Vannam is a very special feature of the Kandyan dance . There are 18 wannam, most of wannam describe the behavior of animals. Gajaga is one of them. The gajaga reflects the elephant’s gait and behavior.
The elephant is one of the most important animals in Sri Lanka. The reason for this is that during the Kandy Dalada Perahera which is held once a year, the Tooth Relic of the Supreme Buddha is brought out by an elephant.
